Description

Unframed, 24 x 36 inches. Acrylic on stretched canvas. This painting depicts the Paratenon at the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. The statue of the lady refers to the sixth caryatid, or maiden, that was originally holding up the Erechtheion. Athens have five of the original caryatids, and the sixth was displaced by illegal excavation by the British in 1802. The battle between the Greek and British government for the return of the maiden to her sisters is still ongoing. This painting represents reunion and the comfort only a home can provide.
